Why You Need A Goodwill Removal Letter

There is a good chance the reason you are reading this is that you missed a payment, and it was reported to the credit bureaus, which significantly dropped your credit score.

Now, you are desperately trying to figure out how to fix this problem because of your creditor's actions.

It is very likely that your creditors are lowering your credit limits, increasing your APR rates, and may even have closed some accounts.

Lenders are very wary of people who make late payments as it is the leading indicator of people who are going to eventually stop making payments.

For this reason, when a lender reports a negative experience with you to the credit agencies, everyone gets a bit nervous, and starts trying to minimize their risk.

But, all is not lost…

You can still place some hope in the unicorn of credit repair mythology,

THE GOODWILL LETTER!

I know you are wondering, 'Do Goodwill letters work?'

Of course they do!

We will review when a Goodwill Removal Letter is appropriate, who you should send it to, and what you should include in it.

What Is A Goodwill Letter?

A Goodwill adjustment letter is written to a creditor that has filed a negative record upon your credit file because you made a late payment or were delinquent on some financial agreement.

This is really important to understand because if someone has filed a negative account that is untrue or inaccurate, you need to send a Section 609 Dispute Letter, not a Goodwill / Forgiveness Letter.

A Goodwill adjustment letter is written to a creditor that has filed a negative record upon your credit file because you made a late payment or were delinquent on some financial agreement.

The Goodwill forgiveness removal letter is sent to a creditor explaining why you failed to pay on time (or whatever you did) and why they should forgive you and remove the late payment from your credit file.

Essentially, what you are asking them to do would be like if you punched someone in the face by mistake (or anger), and then you asked them not to file charges with the police.

Since it's just a minor nose bleed after all and we've known each other for a long time...

They have every right to have you arrested, but because they know you and believe it was a one-time mistake, they give you a free pass.

That's what we are asking for with our Goodwill / Forgiveness Letter, and is the best attitude to have when writing these letters.

Letters that are contrite, humble, and include hand-picked facts in your favor are the most effective.

They are not easy to write, and you literally have one chance because once most lenders decide on whether they are going to honor your deletion request letter, they will not revisit it.

Strategies To Include In Your Goodwill / Forgiveness Letter

Further below, you will find free sample goodwill letters with multiple examples, templates, and PDFs to choose from.

They include the basic structures and outlines every Goodwill deletion letter needs.

What I want to focus on are the details that only you can include in the letter that I can't write for you.

I think the most important concept you must convey in this letter is an attitude of apology and positiveness.

Remember, you are the one responsible for this negative record, and this is not the time to lash out or blame the creditor for any reason.

Be sure to explain the reasons for your mistake and the steps you have taken to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Provide any documentation or proof of death in the family or other events that actually were the reason for the late payment.

It never hurts to say something like, 'I have been a happy customer for X years due to the incredible customer service I have received.'

Be sure to include any information that may make the person reading your letter empathetic to your plight.

Another great strategy is to mention that you are planning to apply for one of their loan products, and you are concerned that your mistake may stop you from qualifying.

Be sure to do a quick search of their website and find an actual loan product, leaving my Goodwill sample template with the [INSERT LOAN PRODUCT HERE] probably won't help your case.

Best Letter To Remove a Closed Account

There is no reason for a company that has closed your account to grant you a Goodwill letter to remove a closed account.

Once the account is closed, it usually cannot be reopened.

Closed accounts could hurt your credit score by lowering the age of your credit history or affecting the amount of credit you have available.

A Goodwill adjustment request most likely would not be effective for this problem.

If you have a closed account hurting your credit score, you can contact our top-rated professional credit repair company to discuss a possible dispute inquiry.

Deletion Request Letters To Remove Paid Collections

Usually, when you pay off a collection account, you can negotiate a 'pay for delete' clause into the agreement.

A pay for delete letter is sent offering to settle the collection account for a set amount of money and for the collections company to delete the negative records filed with the credit bureaus.

Sending a Goodwill letter to remove paid collection probably will not be effective since collection companies are cold-hearted and unempathetic.

However, instead of sending a Goodwill letter to collection agency, you could send a credit dispute to the credit bureaus.

Here's an article explaining how to do that using our 609 dispute template, and below we have the free templates.

Please note sending these can be tricky because collection agencies will usually fight anyone who tries to remove a negative record they furnished because they are cold-hearted SOB's.

But, in many instances, I have seen our Top Rated Credit Repair Company get paid collections removed from customer's credit reports.

Best Goodwill Removal Letter for a Credit Inquiry

Generally, when you request credit, a potential lender will make a hard pull on your credit file, which will be recorded as a credit inquiry.

The stay on your file for two years and unless you have a large number of them do not affect your credit score by just a few points.

I do not believe that a Goodwill Credit Inquiry Removal Letter is the best route to challenge an inquiry.

All three of the big credit agencies, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion all offer a dispute process to challenge a credit inquiry.

So instead, you need to send a 609 dispute letter.  We have the templates for you below, and you can read about how to send the 609 letter here.

Again, sending a Goodwill Deletion Request Letter to the agencies would not be useful as it would be the incorrect way to challenge an inquiry.

If there are unauthorized inquiries, you can dispute it yourself or discuss it with a credit repair service if they are even worth the time to challenge since they generally don't affect your credit score that much.

What's the Best Type of Letter To Remove a Charge Off?

First, I think you should think about what you are actually asking a company to do if you send them a Goodwill Letter to remove charge off.

A charge-off is when your lender gives up on you ever paying them, and they charge-off the debt as a complete loss.

The only thing that they can take solace in is furnishing the credit agencies with a substantial negative charge-off on your credit file.

You screwed them out of the money, and now they get to tell everyone about it, which will really screw you up on getting credit in the future.

So a Goodwill letter to remove charge off isn't probably going to be too effective.

Instead, what you could do is send a 609 dispute letter to dispute the debt was really yours.  Click here to learn how to submit a 609 dispute letter.

And here are the best templates.

Select a Template to Remove Charge Offs Below For A Free PDF

Again, the Goodwill template won't work.

What are you going to say inside the letter?

I know I didn't pay you, and since you charged-off the debt, you can no longer collect it, so, how about you also send the credit agencies a letter removing this from my file.

But, there is hope…

Credit Repair services know that if there is any minor mistake with that charge-off filing at the credit bureaus, they can dispute it.

Our top-rated credit repair service actually specializes in charge-off removal and may be able to help you.

Best Dispute Letter To Credit Bureaus

Writing a Goodwill deletion request letter to remove negative credit report information can be an effective way to increase your credit score.

Writing a Goodwill letter to credit bureau is probably a complete waste of your time.

Credit Bureaus do not furnish the negative information that is put into your file because they are only the collector of the data.

Since they only collect the information, they would be unable to remove it without the furnisher's permission.

That's why instead, you need to send a 609 dispute letter to the credit bureaus.  See our free templates below.

If you have a black mark in your credit file, the Goodwill adjustment letter should be directed to the company who filed it against you, not the Credit Agency.

To dispute any negative records in your credit file, you must thoroughly understand the process, or you could screw something up.

Don't do that, let our top-rated credit repair company help you fix your credit records today!

Goodwill Letter For Student Loans

If you have missed a payment on your student loans, you may want to consider sending your loan servicer a Goodwill adjustment request for student loans.

There are many documented cases of successful requests for deletion from student loan Goodwill letters to servicers around the internet.

Keep in mind that most of these accounts included an excellent reason for the mistake and had a solid payment history before and after the late payment.

Did you know?

48% of credit repair customers saw a 100 point or more credit score increase after 6 months.

U.S. Credit Repair Survey (Oct '19)

Be sure to know all the facts, for instance, a Federal student loan letter may be different than a private student loan because Federal service loan providers cannot report your late payments until they are 90 days past due.

Remember to keep the letter simple and to the point without a bunch of rambling… basically, don't write like me. 🙂

I also have found many of the most common student loan servicers addresses to save you a few minutes of having to find them yourself.

Why YOU Should Not Send A Goodwill Letter

Unless you have the time and experience with do-it-yourself credit repair and goodwill letters, I'd advise you to speak with a credit repair service first.

Our top recommended credit repair service will provide you with a free consultation and help answer any questions on your proposed strategy.

Here's the problem with doing this yourself…

When you dispute a credit record with the credit bureaus or send a goodwill adjustment letter, everything is recorded and documented in your file.

If you fail to include the proper information, you will have a much lower chance of success.

But, more than likely, because most people are not professional credit repair experts, they attack the problem incorrectly and are doomed from the start.

In fact, multiple 'types' of Goodwill letters we will discuss in this article have problems for which a Goodwill adjustment letter would be wholly inappropriate.

My point is, credit repair services are really inexpensive when you are talking about the potential impact a successful section 609 letter or a Goodwill forgiveness removal letter can have.

Either way, for free, you can speak with our top-rated credit repair service by clicking on the orange button below.

What To Do If Your Goodwill Letter Does Not Work

Just because your Goodwill letter did not work, does not mean that you cannot have the negative record removed from your credit report.

Even if most everything on that negative record is true, you may still be able to file a credit dispute.

The rules are very clear when a furnisher sends information about you to the credit agencies it must be 100% accurate.

That means that if anything is incorrect, you have the legal right and duty to dispute the record.

So, if your full name is Jack Liam Smith and a negative record is filed in your report under the name Jack F. Smith, guess what, dispute that joker!

Credit repair services are really good at going through every single detail of a record to find a mistake that you can use to dispute.

It is 100% legal, I should know, I practiced law for 10 years and ensure that the rights of people just like you were respected and enforced as an attorney.

If you wrote a Goodwill Letter and nothing came of it, contact our friends at the top rated credit repair company on this site to see if they can help.
