There are several secured cards that you can obtain; however, most of them will require a credit check before they will approve your application.

This isn't a good thing because a hard credit inquiry stays on your report for 2 years.

However, to get the best of both worlds, we did a quick review of the best-secured cards with no credit check for 2019, and you can see our choices below:

How We Chose A Winner

We used several factors to determine our pick for the best secured credit cards that don't require a credit check.

We used the below factors:

Application Process

We looked at both the speed and ease of each application to see who had the better overall process.

Annual Fee

Both of these cards have an annual fee, so we used this as a factor when picking each card.

APR

One of the most important parts about any credit card will be the APR, so we made sure to use this as a ranking factor.

Approval Process

Each card boasts it can get almost anyone approved, and without harming their credit, we researched each card to see if they actually did what they promised.

Customer Service

Last but not least, we wanted to see how their customer service functioned and which company had the best overall customer service.

Why We Like OpenSky® As The Winner

Open Sky® is the truth, you won't need a credit check when you apply, and you don't need a bank account to qualify either.

While this card does have an annual fee, it isn't the highest, and the interest rate is reasonable for a Secured Card.

You can also build your credit with this card since it does report your payment history to all three major credit bureaus.

Your initial security deposit will be FDIC Insured, and you can choose to start with as low as $200 up to $3,000,  which is great. (When it comes to credit limits, the higher, the better so if you can afford it, try to add more than $200)

You also get the option to check on the status of your application if you aren't instantly approved.

If you are trying to rebuild or establish credit and but don't want your credit pulled to get new credit, then the OpenSky® Secured Visa® Credit Card is definitely worth a look.

Pros & Cons

While this card is an excellent option for getting your credit started, there are still some things you must consider when making a choice; below we list the pros and cons of the card:

Pros

  • Email Alerts - Get notified when your payments are due or set up automatic payments online.
  • Build Your Credit - Your on-time payments will report to Equifax, Experian, and Transunion.
  • You Get A Visa - Get all of the regular Visa benefits, such as fraud protection and worldwide acceptance.
  • No Credit Check - Seriously, they will not check your credit for your approval.
  • Make Your Own Limit - Your initial deposit is your limit so you can start with up to a $3,000 credit limit.

Cons

  • Annual Fee - A $35 annual fee is charged to your balance as soon as you receive the card.
  • Initial Deposit - You have to come up with at least $200.00 for the initial deposit.
  • Foreign Transaction Fee - You will pay an additional 3% per dollar on all foreign transactions.
  • Express Shipping Fee - If you want the card faster, there is a $50.00 one time fee.

Product Overview

This card has its ups and downs; however, it is all about understanding its purpose in your wallet.

You need to add this to your credit tools if you are trying to rebuild or establish credit.

This card won't be one you want to pull out for big purchases because you always want to have low payments while you are building your credit.

If you can qualify for an unsecured credit card, then this card isn't for you.

Once this card has served its purpose, if you decide to close it, as long as you don't have a balance, the initial deposit will be mailed back to you in a check.

Why We Like Green Dot As The Runner Up

While the Green Dot Secured Card is a great option, it has more fees associated with it than your average secured card.

Since Green Dot works with tons of retailers already, you do have the option to upload your initial deposit and also make your payments at over 5,000 stores, which is a plus.

However, there is a fee associated with uploading your funds to the card or making a payment.

Your credit score won't be impacted when you apply; however, your credit still gets pulled.

This type of pull, however, is known as a "soft pull" and it will not affect your credit score or report.

So while your credit technically gets pulled, it doesn't hurt your credit, which is why people want "no credit check" in the first place.

Pros & Cons

While this card is a strong contender when deciding to get your road to good credit started there are still some things you must consider before chosing this card; below we list the pros and cons:

Pros

  • Build Your Credit - Your on-time payments will report to Equifax, Experian, and Transunion.
  • Email Alerts - Get notified when your payments are due or set up automatic payments online.
  • Make Your Own Limit - Your initial deposit is your limit so you can start with up to a $5,000 credit limit.
  • You Get A Visa - Get all of the regular Visa benefits, such as fraud protection and worldwide acceptance.
  • No "Hard Pull" Credit Check - Seriously, you will not harm your credit if you apply for this card.

Cons

  • Annual Fee - A $39 annual fee is charged to your balance as soon as you receive the card.
  • Initial Deposit - You have to come up with at least $200.00 for the initial deposit.
  • Deposit Fee - If you deposit your money at a retailer there is a $4.95 or less fee attached.
  • Foreign Transaction Fee - You will pay an additional 3% per dollar on all foreign transactions.

Product Overview

With a refundable security deposit, you can go into this as a win-win situation.

Not only can you start building a good credit score, but when you are done with the card, you get your money back.

A good credit score is essential in helping you to borrow money to pay down bills or buy a car)

Beyond the annual fee, deposit fee, and the initial deposit the Green Dot Visa Secured Credit Card is still a reliable option for building or rebuilding credit.

You still get your on-time payments reported to the 3 major credit bureaus which are the primary point of this card.

Why Avoid A Hard Credit Inquiry

When trying to establish or rebuild credit, it is crucial that you don't do any additional actions that may harm your credit.

There are two types of credit inquiries, a "soft pull" and a "hard pull."

Obtaining hard pull credit inquiries will ding your score and make it harder for you to get approved for additional credit.

Soft pull credit inquiries have no effect on your score but allows a creditor to review your credit profile still to make a decision.

It is always best to do your hard inquiries in clusters and try not to space them out over time.

This is because they take 2 years to come off of your credit report.

You will see soft inquiries on your credit report as well, but they don't affect your score.

Below is a quick chart showing what action creates what inquiry:

Action

Type Of Inquiry

Viewing Your Own Credit Score & Report

Soft Inquiry

Applying For Health, Auto, Or Home Insurance

Soft Inquiry

A Current Or Potential Employer Checks Your Credit

Soft Inquiry

Current Creditor Review Of Your Account

Soft Inquiry

Hard Inquiry

Getting An Auto Loan

Hard Inquiry

Taking Out A Mortgage

Hard Inquiry

Renting An Apartment

Hard Inquiry

Hard Or Soft / Depends On Creditor

As you can see, there are plenty of ways that you can get a hard or soft credit inquiry so it is best to always be aware of what applying for something will do to your credit.
