Disclaimer: "Credit score" refers to FICO score in this article.  If you have a different score (i.e. VantageScore), that does not likely equal your FICO.  For example, a 502 VantageScore could equal any FICO score... 391, 426, 597?  Who knows?  You can get your FICO score here.

How To Get No Credit Check With A 500 Credit Card Credit Score

Having a credit card that you can use when you do not have any cash or to make online purchases is pretty much a necessity today.

What credit cards can I get with a 500 credit score?

Being unable to get a card because of bad credit severely limits your options in a society that makes it more convenient to use plastic rather than cash.

Because of your bad credit, most lenders will not consider giving you an unsecured revolving loan, whether your average score is 501, 503, or 507.

Your best bet to get credit with a 509 VantageScore is a secured credit card.

A secured credit card looks and works just like a traditional card, but your credit limit is determined by the amount of money you deposit with the lender.

This is a great way to begin building credit and showing the banks that you can be trusted to pay them back.

You should have the opportunity to have a pretty large credit limit since most secured credit cards allow you to deposit as little as $50 dollars and as much as $5,000.

One good credit-building strategy is to open a couple of secured credit card accounts by depositing $50 - $200 into each one.

If you add multiple secured cards to your portfolio, it will increase your number of tradelines and start to build your credit files payment history much faster.

The three major credit bureaus, Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian, collect all of your credit interactions, and lenders use them in conjunction with FICO to calculate your score.

Your payment history accounts for as much as 35% of your score, so having multiple secured cards reporting your monthly payments is helpful.

There are two main factors when considering which secured credit card to choose from; the APR rate and the annual fees.

With secured credit cards you usually have to choose between a low APR rate that will have high annual fees or a high APR rate with low to no annual fees.

If you plan on using the card often, choose the lower APR rate.

But if you aren't planning on using the credit regularly, just choose the card with no annual fees.

Credit Score Credit Card 500 - Online Store Options

Another option you may consider is the Fingerhut online store credit card

WebBank offers Fingerhut online store credit to people with bad VantageScores, even as low as 502, 504, or 506.

I applied for Fingerhut credit when my FICO score was around 550, and they gave me a $1,000 credit line.

In fact, just by making the minimum monthly payments over the past year, they have increased my credit limit up to $2,300!

Revolving credit helps build your credit file.  By applying for Fingerhut credit it helped my FICO score increase 100 points.

It costs you absolutely nothing to apply for a Fingerhut credit card, and even if they do not give you an unsecured credit line, you should qualify for their Fresh Start program.

The Fresh Start program allows you to make a purchase for $50 and then pay them back over six months.

Quick Note:

Your Fingerhut account won’t include an actual credit card because you can only use the credit to purchase items from their website.

Once you have completed all six payments, Fingerhut will then give you an unsecured credit line to be used for online purchases from their catalog of brand named goods.

You can start building credit, improve your credit, and buy name brand products on credit by applying for the Fingerhut credit card with a 508 VantageScore today!

Alternative To Unsecured 500 Credit Card Credit Score

Outside of Fingerhut, you will have a hard time getting an unsecured credit card with a 505 credit score.

Keep in mind that applying for multiple credit cards that you have no hope of ever qualifying for will hurt your credit.

You should never apply for credit unless you are absolutely sure you will qualify.

Unsecured credit cards are usually given to people with a VantageScore of 600 or higher.

However, if you have a good job and income, you may qualify for a bad credit personal loan.

Keep in mind that an unsecured personal loan with a FICO score between 500 to 509 is going to cost you a lot of money in interest.

Quick Tip:

Never apply for a credit card unless you are absolutely positive you will be approved.

In fact, a recent Bloomberg article it is estimated that people with a FICO score around 501, 503, or 505, can expect to pay APR rates between 35% and 155%.

Unless you are in an absolute dire straight, steer clear from a personal loan for bad credit.

We have a great relationship with a bad credit personal loan lender and would suggest you start with them if you choose to try this path.
